DESIGN POP - CANCELLED
After much deliberation, following the recent government restrictions around COVID19, it is with a heavy heart that Cork’s Design and Food Festival, Design POP, has made the decision to cancel this year’s event, which was scheduled to take place next week from August 28th to August 30th.
Festival Director Amy McKeogh commented:
“Design POP is about creativity, interaction, and brings joy to the public realm and under the current government restrictions, we would not be able to do so. With the confusion, and conflicting information from the Government, and the fact that the festival HQ, Thompson House, is not deemed to be a gallery, theatre, or cinema, we have come to the really difficult decision to cancel the event.
The outdoor pavilions are about fun, engagement and design, and with the number of people reduced to 15 people, I feel it becomes more about restrictions and less about the intentions of the festival.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all designers, food producers, sponsors, speakers and makers who have already invested so much of their time and energy in the making of this event over the past few months. All ticket holders will be refunded their money in the coming days.
The Design POP team is already making plans and gearing up to make our 2021 festival bigger and better. We thank everyone for all the support over the past year. Take care and stay safe.”
COVID- 19 IMPLICATIONS:
Abiding by the current COVID-19 regulations, each event will be 45 minutes long and restricted to a capacity of 50 in the venue at all times. After each 45 minute event, organisers have a team to clean and sanitize the seating and venue to have it ready for the next speaker or panel discussion. There will be a number of sanitizing stations throughout the venue and organisers request everyone who enters the venue to wear a mask.
PLEASE respect the Design POP volunteers and staff.
FREE TALKS + PANEL DISCUSSIONS:
The talks, panel discussion and workshops that are not marked as (Ticketed) are free! This means we are operating a first-come, first-served structure. Once capacity has been reached we cannot let anyone else enter the venue.
BEFORE THE EVENTS:
We will have a socially- distant queuing system, so please respect the queue. No person without a mask will be allowed to enter the venue. Please sanitise your hands at the hand sanitising station located at the entrance.
DURING THE EVENT:
The entire venue is seated and the seats will be set out in accordance with the social distancing guidelines.
AFTER THE EVENT: Design POP staff will point you in the direction of the exit, as you will NOT be exiting through the way you came in. You will be asked to leave through the Design shop section of the venue.
PLEASE respect the Design POP staff and take all your belongings and rubbish with you.
